Gelli Plate Monotype Workshop

This past Saturday Kelly Hay-Hambrook and I gave a Gelli Plate Monotype workshop for members of the Miramichi Art Core at Carrefour Beausoleil in Newcastle, Miramichi. It was a great learning experience for all of us…and a great time had by all!

The Vestry Door - St. Patrick’s Church

Kelly and I returned to St Patrick’s for another go on Friday. I managed to get my drawing in fountain pen and brown ink completed….and finished in my studio today with watercolours as we were busy on Saturday giving a Gelli Plate workshop to members of the Miramichi Art Core…more on that coming in another post.

Below is a photo of the drawing on Tan Toned Strathmore series 400 paper (184 lb.) and also the finished painting. It was my first time using this heavy paper and the smoothness took the fountain pen work easily and held up very well with the watercolours

Sunrise Monoprints- set of 3

This coming Sunday Kelly and I will be giving a Gelli plate monoprinting workshop for members of the Miramichi Art Core. In advance I thought I would do a few more examples. I will be showing them how I use charcoal transfers for making fine art monoprints. Included here are the examples I’ve created this past week -

St Samuel’s

Out again last week before the snow storm hit..this time in Douglastown to capture a scene that has caught my eye every time I’ve passed by for several years now..what could look more lovely than a little white church up on a hill… St Samuel’s Church in Douglastown NB

Captured first on location in water soluble ink and a fountain pen and finished in my studio by adding watercolour

Winter in Chatham NB

At it again ..en Plein air …in Chatham NB.

These two scenes …Bare Bones..the tree on top of the hill near St Michael’s..a tiny 5 X 7 in. Painted using my little Gorilla painting kit ..and the old stone building nearby (The Bishop’s Palace) where I did the drawing on site and the watercolour in my studio. The Bishop’s Palace is to be demolished this coming Monday…. A sad day for this historic old building

Time to catch up! Kelly and I had a few good car painting days …..

The first here is the little church at Wilson’s Point, Miramichi NB….where I have just retired from being their Artist in Residence for the past several years. Kelly Hay Hambrook will be taking over the position and I know they’ll appreciate her art as much as I do. (Look her up on Facebook)

The painting was done entirely with a set of tinted charcoal by Derwent …..both pencils and blocks. The colours were just right for this type of scene…woodsy and rough.

The second painting was done in the back parking lot of St. Patrick’s church in Nelson, Miramichi….the focal point being the old brick rectory. My husband and I married at St. Patrick’s many years ago…and this is such a familiar sight to me. I’ve done a few paintings of the church previously..all sold as the parishioners here love their little church. The painting was completed in pastels.

The third painting , an urban scene…in oils, was done in downtown Newcastle, Miramichi. I loved the looked of the older homes on a backstreet.
