Anyone who follows my work will have noticed the many times I’ve painted churches…Why?…you ask…
After gathering many of them (not all) into a combo photo (seen above) I asked myself the same question….or more pointedly “Why am I attracted to painting them?” I had to think long and hard to find the answer…. So here goes….
Like many of us I think, at least in the 50’s…..I grew up attending a church on Sunday with my family. It taught me one thing that I’ve carried with me throughout my life…..That there is *something* great…in all of us that connects us all. There are many churches of all faith families here on the Mighty Miramichi and no matter how far you roam from home….your faith family would be waiting for you when you returned. Your church would always…without fail…welcome you home. That steeple was a beacon of love.
So you see….to me, a church symbolizes family, togetherness, the common good, the realization that we are all connected…in love.
